The results of the study signed by scientists from Albany Medical College were published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine.

It is noted in the article that congenital lymphoid cells (ILC2s) of the second group can help fight brain aging. These cells are located in certain tissues of the body and participate in regeneration processes, but according to scientists’ words, the prevalence of ILC2s cells in the central nervous system and their impact on aging were unknown.

5 YEARS OLD, RATING YOUTH
Investigating the brains of young and old mice, researchers found that ILC2s cells accumulate in the vascular plexus, which produces cerebrospinal fluid as the age progresses. This plexus is located next to the hippocampus, which plays a key role in cognitive processes.

In older mice, the number of ILC2s cells in the vascular plexus turned out to be 5 times higher than in younger ones. A large number of ILC2s cells were also found in the same region in older people.

WAS SLEEPING IN ELDERLY Mice
In older mice, ILC2s cells were in a “sleep” state, but scientists managed to activate them thanks to the cytokine Interleukin 33 (IL-33). Cells then began to produce proteins that stimulate neuron formation and prolong life. As a result, improvements were noted in a series of cognitive test results of older mice.
